Title: Ain't Toyota. Ain't Care
Post by: SidewaysEightSix on November 02, 2016, 12:32:30 AM
It's a van!

1996 Chevy Astro panel van.  It's now my new Sideways Engineering van, responsible for parts running, Racecar hauling, and HVAC/R side work.   Kinda stoked.    Has a shitty alarm that I need to remove(already had to bypass it twice lol) AC doesn't work.  Has hail dents. Sliding door won't open.    Has super low miles.   It's a tax write off so whatever.

I'm stoked

If I remember right, those are rear wheel drive.
Needs:

Negative camber - lots.

Lowered.

Boso exhaust

Roll cage.

Lowered even more,

Big turbo.

Drift it!

Hahaha.  Nooooo.   It does need a 1" drop, some shelves and tire cargo, and a hitch

Also needs some decent decals, and some of the half assed wiring removed, along with a 150,000 mile maintanence run through.

It's a work truck.  Want it to be semi-professional at least.

Found my issue with the blower motor I think.   GM used a plastic tubing as a vacuum line to engage the blower.   As you can imagine after 20 years on engine bay heat this hard plastic line is now in 4-5 pieces

New stuff on order including HVAC stuff, new tail lights, and the cargo door hinges/bushings

Of course my van is missing the door check brackets.    So I pulled some off a van from a yard only to realize that the nuts drop inside the body once they are off and they are forever lost.    I'm not sure I'll even be able to get any back on in my van.    Looks like they get bolted on before the body is riveted together in the corners.   Sweet.

Also replaced the vacuum hose for the HVAC system, which still won't kick on.   Still no air.    So now I get to tear into the dash and trace wiring.    Good time to remove the janky shit.

Found a Class 3 hitch, really new full size spare, and the spare tire hoist in the scrap yard.   There was a van still on the delivery truck that I want to look at.   Gonna pull the HVAC switch panel from it

If I can't get the AC working by the time temps hit 110 I'm selling this van.

Yup.   Just gotta buy some and borrow Fidas nutsert gun

Just slightly worried about the leverage that's available to rip those puppies out.
