Hysteric's new truck "sorta"
« on: November 21, 2012, 08:57:58 PM »
Picked this truck up a few months ago from a friend for really cheap. It's a 95 Tacoma 4X4 with a 2.7 liter 3RZ.

It had its fair share of issues. Blown motor, interior torn out and scattered all over the place, and miss matching panels. (sorry that was the only pic i took before work began.)

First thing was to take care of that tired old motor. so out it came.

The new motor came from a 4runner that had rolled while it was still new. Its just been basically sitting for 12 years.

Sorry I failed to take pics after the engine went in.

Anyways the problem was the truck is a 95 which at the time the 3RZ still used a distributor. while in like 98-99 they switch it to coils. This was sorta a pain in the ass because the old engine harness had to go and swapping out the inside harness didnt sound like too much fun. Basically ended up de and re-pinning the connectors where the engine and inside harness meet. (not a fan of spliced wires)

Toyota used the same connector that joins the 2 harnesses thankfully, but called them something different. The 95 version is called IK2 and the 99 version is II3. Got some print ups of the wiring diagrams for both versions and cross referenced what each wire was for. Then re-pinned the IK2 side of the connector.

My crappy notes

After the wiring nightmare it fired up and ran like a beast. Put the interior back together as much as i could. Took it through emissions no problem.

Then it was time to do something with those ugly miss matching panels.

I know it looks like it had a stroke due to the droopy passenger headlight. Bucket is just out of place and Ive yet to fix it. Thats all i have for now.

BTW I am looking for a grey glove box for this thing. If anyone comes across one, let me know. The original one sat in the bed exposed to the sun and warped. Thanks for checking out my truck.

I giggled.
"I'm fat and he's Asian.  Crazy food is bound to come up in conversation."
      "wait, am I the Asian?!"
"yeah bro.  Yeah, I think so."
      "I'm white!"
"visually, yes.  But so is Takumi Fujiwara."

Yes....  You are an expert
